So I finally got around to getting Forscan connected to my truck -- turned out easier to use a hardwire OBD for coms to the laptop. So now I have some data, but have no clue what it means? I didn't see anything for the FICM but here is what I have for the PCM:
pcm part no: 6C3AEYB
Strategy: VXCF4X3
Hardware type: DPU-462
Copyright Ford Motor Co. 2006
One question I have is does the "copyright 2006" mean I have my original strategy? And that number looks strange too, I thought it would be like a VXC9.... or something like that...
This is along the lines of whether or not it is worth getting my truck flashed to the latest strategies (assuming there are multiple units that get updated?) -- would be great to have some cross reference to go to about what strategy does what and plays well with others...
My batteries are out right now while I’m buttoning up some mods. I’ll look at my X4 once I get them back in and see what strategy I had added when Gearhead wrote my tunes.
Thanks for that link -- it is nicely explained there...

So, maybe this is still on the stupid question side of things: but I thought the "buzz flash" and "inductive heating", etc. were flashes in the FICM? Or is it the PCM that instructs the FICM to do the heating or buzzing, etc... I would prefer not to even have the inductive heating -- let those injectors and FICM live a long life just doing their "normal" job...
From everything ive read on several places and from tuners the heating strategy is the better of the two but i dont know, just seems everyone with injector problems has the buzz deal, every 6.0 ive owned had the heat and never a single injector problem but did burn out the ficm power board on one truck, maybe i just been lucky so far.

And I'd expect if it comes from the PCM that it uses a temperature (or multiple), at least EOT, to determine if it should heat at all. I may not hit that lower limit on start up hardly ever living in CA... Thanks, Mark...
