well have my 64 f100 in primer and want to seal the seams with the 3m seam sealer and was asking for some tips on putting it on the seams on the back of the cab and the seam on the bow fenders or is there a better sealer than 3m?
thanks mike p.s. this body work is a pain its a lot more fun doing the metal work and welding
Best advice I can give (and I'm no expert) is to tape along the seam to keep things neat. If you've ever caulked anything, I would say it's like trying to caulk something with construction adhesive and can be real messy if you're not careful. Apply a light bead only where you want it and carefully wipe the seam with a rag and some solvent. Don't soak the rag, and don't wipe it so much that you remove it all and make a mess, but rather lightly wipe it to help shape it and also to not remove the primer with the solvent. After you remove the tape you can carefully clean up any ridge if necessary, again, carefully so not to mess up the seam you just filled. For the roof drip rail I used self leveling sealer and here taping is a must. Best method I found was to use a finger to even things out and the self leveling effect will allow it to kinda smooth over as it sets. Again make sure to only apply enough so that you're not really removing much, but rather lightly shaping it instead.
Try LORD Chemical products division. I dont have there number. Google them, they sell seam sealer to all the auto folks and may have a sample pack you can try.
Ask for customer service and tell them a old employee sent you.

Chris
I used SEM both from a tube and brush on for my project.
I still have a little more I have to do and I never gave it a thought of using tape for clean lines.
Then again I was doing cab floors before using roll on bed liner.

Don't know if you have sealed your seams yet. If you are still looking for 3m seam sealer they have on called ez sand #5887 that works great. Do run tape around where you want it and use a small acid type brush when applying it. Once it is on it will flow out nice giving a really smooth lookand pull the tape before it has set up to give you a great edge.
