Anyone tried taking off the egr by taking off the entire spacer below the carb between the carb and manifold? i am not using the egr because my vacuum setup got gutted and i no longer can use it. I want to know if this will cause a performance issue with a log manifold, here is a picture of what i want to do, this isnt my engine but it has the carb and the egr completely gone. It this going to make gas build up right below the carb in the manifold?
The EGR adapter sets the carburetor at the correct orientation for the original throttle cable to be properly aligned. A 3/4" pipe thread plug will seal the opening where the exhaust gas tube entered the EGR adapter. I cut off the EGR valve mounting part and had a friend weld a small aluminum plate to seal the opening. Some people simply block off the EGR valve with a thin sheet of metal [soda can].
thats what i have right now, the exhaust pipe is still hooked up because its rusted on so bad that no amount of chemical and torquing will take it off, are there any 1 bbl carb spacers that tall? and is it bad to have that exhaust pipe hooked up still but not being used?
Years ago, I took the EGR adapter off a 1978 F100 w/300 engine to a friend's machine shop. He had a piece of Aluminum bar which was about 3" [4"?] in diameter. He measured the height of the EGR adapter and cut the bar to same length. Using a new carburetor base gasket as a pattern, the holes were drilled.
my reason for this is because i might be replacing my carb with a new one and if i have it off i was going to see if replacing this with a spacer will increase how smooth the acceleration is because gas wont build up on the hole of the egr where it goes below the carb flange, mine has this problem because the carb is so messed up it will randomly dump gas into the intake and sometimes itll run lean and sometimes itll idle low or high and im about fed up with it so looked around and i found this Carb on ebay, yeah i know its on ebay but im hoping to gain some reliably with the vacuum actuated choke on this one, my choke will sometimes get stuck open or closed because its really in bad shape from all of the rebuilds that were done by the previous owner. i dont know the quality of this newer carb because its on ebay but if there are any other suggestions im open to all options but my budget wont allow for a 4bbl intake and all that encompasses that. the only problems i see with this new carb is that there is no throttle handle on the front side so i wouldnt have a WOT valve unless i can put mine on that one and i also dont see a transmission passing gear piece in the pic.
