Emission Hose
My 1982 F-150 "failed" it's smog test for the first time. Why? Because I used a heater hose instead of an emission hose on part of the smog system. Silly me, I used a red heater so the tech could see it plainly. Although I did this fix back in 1996 so three other techs did not notice/care.
Now I need to find 3/4 inch "emission hose". I tried Pep Boys Kragen and Napa but the best I could find was 5/8 hose. Anyone out there know where I can get this type of hose?

I don't have an answer for you, but I'm just curious: Is this hose for the canister purge system, or the fuel tank vapor return? 3/4" seems awfully big for the cannister purge. I share your concern because I have an '81 and am in SoCal too.
On second thought, I do have a suggestion. Try an industrial supply house that sells hose and fittings so heavy industry. In Ventura County we have a shop called 'Hoseman' that sells hose and makes up custom stuff for industry. At least a place like that might be able to steer you in the right direction.

After about a 10 phone calls to the local auto parts stores I got a reference to the type of place you suggested. GBC Corp on "C" St. in Wilmington. They have all types of bulk hose for auto, marine, etc applications. I told the guy my story and he understood my problem. He handed me 3ft of "scrap" hose that would do the trick for $5. I bought some awesome stainless steel hose clamps that had an inner band to protect the hose. The place also rebuilds A/C cables, which is next on my list.
As for what hose this is, forgive my lack of precision in this description. I think the the part is called an air injector hose. There is a tube that attaches to the back of both heads (near the fire wall below the EGR Valve); the hose I needed was attached to this tube. The hose runs to some sort of valve that is attached to the smog pump, via another hose. Both hoses are 3/4.
