Someone posted in another thread that their solution was to disconnect the tailgate release button inside the cab (I think they said near the emergency brake?). Apparently, vibration/movement when driving was inadvertently triggering the button and releasing the tailgate.
There is a tsp out for this for 17s SD built before June 17. Water gets in the connector and shorts it causing the gate to drop. I’m having the cable replaced this week under warranty.
I had the tsb done as well. Its a big deal. complete wire harness and about 25 new connectors. R and R fuel tank, spare tire, and def tank.. Mine took two days.

Do you happen to have a pic of the connector? I'd like to check mine out and add di-electric grease.
TSB 17-2196 This is considered a safety hazard. If you take it into the dealership they probably won't give it back to you as it can cause a wreck. Mine started out doing what yours is doing, and then one day the driver's seat went all the way back, the steering wheel went forward and up and the seat massagers came on and couldn't be turned off,,, while doing 80 mph.
You'd better get this checked out. Its been taking some dealerships a month to get the wiring harness as they are on National back order due to high demand. The harness runs from the cab to the trailer hitch. The questionable connector is located on the passenger side of the trailer hitch. It gets full of water and shorts everything out over time. One guy had his tailgate come down on a post that scratched it.
Based on the description I found for TSB 17-2196, it would appear that no truck built after June, 2017 should have this problem. Does anyone have a truck built after 6/17 that exhibits this problem? Just trying to figure out if this is something to watch for on my soon to be delivered 2018. Thanks.

Yikes. My 2017 F-350 Lariat (non-ultimate but many options) DRW has a manufacture date of Oct. 2016. I've never taken action on a TSB - will the dealer act preemptively if I call in? Or do I have to be exhibiting problem behaviors before they'll repair it? I haul water in this rig and drive in snow everyday.

Mine was built in Early September and the Tailgate opened twice on me Yesterday. One of the times I think I may have hit the button. I have the Keys hanging on my belt loop. The other time I was sure I didn't accidentally hit the button. I initially thought I didn't close the tailgate completely the first time it happened, but when it happened the second time, I knew something is amiss. I can't believe with all of this technology, there's not a sensor that would keep the tailgate from opening if it was going to hit something if opened. Fortunately for me I pulled in to the parking spot instead of backing in like I usually do.
Is there a way to disable the tailgate on the key fob?

if you don’t have the ultimate package, I don’t believe your truck has the electric tailgate release. Yours should have the tried and true mechanical latch

True - no electronic tailgate release. However, I believe the same connector exists in the harness that everyone has been talking about. I'm fine not worrying about it for now but wouldn't mind being ahead of the game.
I think mine was the vibration from releasing the parking brake that activated a weak switch, it hasn't done it since disconnecting the switch 6 months ago.
Same issue. Took a couple days. They did give me the truck back as only issue was tailgate opening but they had to get it done prior to a trip towing my 5er. I could see how bad that could be. They suggested removing the tailgate and i said no. I did not know it affected other things too. The harness was hot rushed and i belive the last of what was available at the time.
