So after doing my egr cooler and oil cooler my turuck start running really rough at idle at on acceleration. It was very noticeable at 1500 rpm doing about 45 once the overdrive kicked in. I thought an injector went out. So this morning on my way to the shop to diagnose which injector it was, the truck shut down on me. Now it's throwing P0683 gpcm. Would the symptoms I had be related to this? I tried to fire the truck back up and it won't crank. It's almost like it's frozen. An I looking at get a new gpcm and plugs?
I did that and also did an ohms test and it seems ok . Tested by disconnecting the harness that has the four wire coming from it on top of the valve cover. 1.0 to .09 is what I was getting. But when I test the big green and black plugs coming from the gpcm I don't get a reading on every terminal.

Had the same things on the kids truck last winter, same code. Found a used one off an 07 E350 from ebay.
Doesn't really explain the no crank issue however
Ok so gpcm is not the problem. The new one did not fix the issue. Right before my wife got home I got it to fire it let out a huge puff of white smoke. Then I shut it down and now it won't crank at all again the engine won't even crank with the key off and using a jumper to the starter

Sounds like it might need a battery (based on your battery acid post). Try charging it and then load testing it. Sounds like you then need to pull your starter. Replace if necessary. Then pull glow plugs and turn by hand to see if it had been hydrolocked. Any way to guess at what the white cloud was (coolant or fuel)?
With the code you posted, I don't think you wasted the money on the GPCM, but a bad battery (if that is what you have), can cause a lot of problems, depending on how low the voltage gets.

Pretty sure the smoke was fuel. Probably from all the times I tried to crank it without it firein
