Quick question. I use an iPhone for my daily stuff but actually use Google voice and Google maps for calls and navigation. Anyone know of a workaround to use these 2 apps using Apple Play or do I have to buy an Android phone just for my truck?

OK. I now see AA on my Sunc 3 display. Weird thing. When I first chose navigation it asked me to pick between Google Maps and Waze. I chose Waze. The screen went and stayed black. I looked at my phone and it said Waze crashed. Now when I select navigation it seems to automatically go to Waze and it always crashes. I tried making sure Waze was always running on my phone, first, but it still crashes. Any tips there?

As of right now, Google voice and Maps are Android Auto and are proprietary to this interface and I really don`t see Apple allowing those two items to work on CarPlay which is their proprietary car interface.

You will either have to pick one or the other or purchase an Android phone with another data plan so you can use both CarPlay and Android Auto.

Interesting. Can you or have you tried to switch it back to Google Maps?

I`m not sure about your phone and Waze because i`ve never used it but Waze will be coming to the SYNC 3 system when version 3.0 is released which they said will be very soon so you will not have to bother with it on your phone.

Sounds like good news, it's dumb to have to plug in your phone to use a nav map. I prefer to just let it connect with Bluetooth for the handsfree phone.

I am not sure how to switch back to Google Maps. When I click navigation it no longer asks me to select which. It seems to default to Waze. I cannot see how to change the default.

Have you tried deleting Waze from your phone, turn phone off then on, then connect phone to truck to see if it works correctly now?

The real and only reason to plug it in is to be able to see the navigation on the actual SYNC screen so one doesn`t have to look at their phone.

Much safer doing it this way plus the phone will be charging at the same time.

Navigation via bluetooth will eat up/drain the battery in your phone in no time.

There are cheap USB cables that will NOT work. My phone didn't charge well when I bought the cheap ones from Fry's. I looked up Amazon and got the good ones after carefully reading the reviews!

You can usually select a different map app if you hit the navigation icon again within AA. As to the USB cable it does not have to be the OEM cable by any means, it just cannot be a cheaper cable. Aa mentioned already, Amazon has some higher quality cables that absolutely do work for AA.....

I can attest that the cable makes a difference. I was lucky enough to find my original and everything worked after that.
