1983 Ford F100 engine replacement
Can anyone share any info and experiences.
I also would like to know if I can but the carbureted intake on this EFI type engine. I believe I can but dont know for sure
Thanks
Just be careful for what you wish for...
I did the same for my bronco. Had a 302 and swapped it for a 92 H/O 302 from a mustang. Higher HP and Torque but it kicks in at a higher RPM range than the truck would. This is due to the type of cam. A truck cam has low end torque. The car cam, which pulls higher rpm's, has a higher rpm curve for HP and torque. I just wish someone told me that before i spent all that time with the swap. The pull is just not there from what i had. If you want to swap go for another truck motor. Or just call Jegs or Summitt and tell them what you have and have them fit a bigger than stock cam. You will see a bigger difference than throwing in a mustang motor.
Good luck.

The reason I want a new engine is because the power on this one sucks. 0-60 accel sucks and 40-65 accel sucks. Also the truck really loses pwr on hills. It is a light 2wd truck it should perform better. There is two cylinders with low compression of 90 lbs and the rest with 115-120lbs. It also needs a crank because it had been knocking for a while and has a low oil pressure at operaating temp. It has a new 2bbl carb. The engine runs great, it does not miss but it is time to get a little more power.
Anyone got any suggestions on a way to get decent but not hod rod power at the lowest price. I am thinking of maybe a new crank, cam , and heads or either getting a mustang engine. I really wont be towing much with this truck so the towing tourqe of a truck engine wont matter much.
Any ideas please reply
