I have a 2008 F2 50 power stroke with the 6.4 diesel I developed a leak at the power steering box and replaced it also had a problem with the pump and the dealer told me it was the power steering pump so I replaced it steering works fine but no power brakes when driving straight when you turn the wheel you can feel the Hydro boost pressure and the brakes work I have vacuum bled the system and driven the truck over and over and still have no power brakes when driving in a straight line they told me that these things were pain to get the air out but I have run the wheel back-and-forth many times driven the truck around all over the place and still the same thing no breaks when driving in a straight line you can push down on the pedal and it feels like the power break booster is not working in the truck does not want to stop but if you turn the steering wheel the hydro boost kicks in and the brakes work anyone have a guess what is going on???
Without having the truck in my shop I am guessing, but I suspect your hydroboost has a problem diverting pressure to the brake side until you start to load the steering side by turning, I think that unless you either take it to a shop that can put pressure gauges on the system or purchase the gauges to do it yourself I would just replace the hydroboost unit, they are not that expensive and the cost to troubleshoot your problem may well exceed the cost of the part. I don't know how many miles you have on your truck but I might also be temped to replace all the pressure lines from the pump to the hydroboost and steering box, I don't think that is your problem, but it can't hurt just due to age.
Just replaced the line and the hydroboost unit still have the problem and I do agree with you that it’s some kind of pressure issue but I don’t have a gusher to measure the pressure going to the booster
I think you need to go to a dealer, they should have the gauges to check pressure. I am wondering if the replacement pump is defective and just doesn't output enough pressure/volume for everything to function, when you start to turn you may be diverting enough to the hydroboost to work.
