What should we do?

I posted in the Superduty section a couple days ago, but got no answer so I decided to try here!

We've been trying to figure out what to do with this truck. (in sig) The transmission is fixing to go out again and this thing is getting so expensive to keep fixed that it's not even funny. I'm pretty sure that the trouble is in the electrical system of the truck somewhere or maybe the ECU is bad. If that's the case it's going to cost a fortune to pay a mechanic to track down the problem and fix it. Not to mention trying to hunt up an ECU to replace this one!! My suggestion to him was to find a donor five-speed in a junk yard and convert it to a manual, but he said that he would sell the truck before he did that so.... What should we do?

How much would it cost to convert to the five-speed? We'd need a transmission, aftermarket clutch to be safe, new crossmember for tranny mount, clutch linkage, brake pedal plate, shift linkage, hole cut in the floor, extended driveshaft section, what else? All of this could come off of the donor truck right? About how much would you expect we'd pay for this?

I was also thinking that we could sell the E4OD to one of the shops that builds performance trannies. (Sell the core) How much do you think we could get for it that way? I'm thinking that the cost would balance out if we could sell the auto to someone like that. Any input if greatly appreciated!! Keep in mind that Dad isn't going to spend much money on it anymore.
