Hey guys, I had previously swapped the Speedo driven gear to match my 4.10 rear. Now I'm swapping in 3.50 gears and am wondering if anyone knows offhand what gear I need. '77 2wd with 29" tall tires which was a stock setup. The original gear I pulled out won't work as the truck came factory with 2.75 gears. I know I can put it together and calculate based on how far off it is but would rather put the new gear in before I put it back on the road.

What series is your truck? Your "About Me" profile says 1994 F150, so obviously this isn't the truck you want the gear for.
How many teeth does the DRIVEN (end of the cable) gear have now?
'77 as it says in my first post. Used to all be in my signature is it not anymore? The driven gear I swapped on was I believe 19 tooth. It was one of, if not the highest tooth count.
A 1994 would have neither a c6 nor a speedometer gear

I know what year it is, but what series is it? F100/F150/F250/F350?
16 thru 21 tooth nylon DRIVEN gears are available from Ford and auto parts stores.
Don't want to hijack this thread, but it is still pertinent to this thread, so hope it's ok.
I have recently taken ownership of a '78 F250 Supercab and have found that the cable is detached from the tranny. The end of the cable at the tranny end is just a cable, and I'm wondering if there's something missing there - seems so, looks like a driven gear based on what I'm reading.
Now, there's a black 'port' on the tranny that seems to be held on by one bolt. Do I pop it off to run the cable through and attach the gear then reattach the bolt?
Dan:
It sounds like the trans drive end broke from the cable. It should have a "can" shape with O-ring that inserts into the trans and held in with a bolt and plate, and a thinner sleeve that connects to the driven gear. See the image below.
Well sheeeeeet!! There ain't nothing like that down there I can see. Any danger in my pulling off that "port" to see what's in there? Is this repairable or only replaceable.

New cable doesn't come with the O-ring. DRIVEN gear doesn't come with the C clip used to retain it to the cable (not shown).
87036-S94 .. Speedometer Cable O-Ring - 11/16" I.D. / Available from Ford.
C1DZ-17292-A .. Driven Gear Retaining Clip / Available from Ford.
...Dan...take the bolt out and the (port?)...I'm guessing the end of the cable in the trans housing. Once you put it all back together you can see what happened, if it broke. You can buy the cable. Just have to measure yours and make sure the new one has the right end for the speedo end. You can buy the gear, O ring and C-clip.
FINALLY got around to doing this, and here's what I've got...I'm guessing something is missing between the cable housing and the (what I am calling) port that has the driven gear attached.
This is how the vehicle ended up being in my possession, so, no idea what has gone on down there with the previous owner...
Here they are apart: Speedo cable out of the driven gear.
Here's what they look like as assembled as I can get them. Speedo cable inserted as far into the driven gear "port" as it can go....
Anyone know if there's some sort of insert wit ha clip (I'm guessing) that's missing here that would hold the cable's housing in the port? If not, I'm just going to rig something up to hold it all together.

Reason: The image didn't show up....
Oh should also note that when I have everything 'assembled' the gear spins the cable and the speedo registers it...if this has just been FUBAR'ed by the previous owner, and should be replaced to be stock/original, I'm just going to rig something up.
