5th Wheel Prep Package

What is this package? No f-350 super duty's within 100 miles of me have it. Can it be installed later? I never had a 5th wheel before, so I don't understand how it works.

Ultimately, I want a fifth wheel hitch I can remove when needed.

Sorry, I should have been a little more clear. I saw the prep package at a dealer in an 8' bed. I literally can't find an F-350 with a 6.5' bed and the 5th wheel prep. Is it coded on the sticker or something?

If I'm not missing something, if it's not common, should I look harder, or just get a regular 5th wheel hitch later?

The prep just gets the under the bed part of the hitch installed. You still need to buy the hitch itself.
Yes you can buy a hitch aftermarket that will work as well as the factory hitch.

the advantage of getting it installed at the factory.
1, it saves you sending the truck off for a day while somebody installs it.
2.It's included in your warranty
3. It's included in your loan vs you writing a separate check after for the install
4. The Ford Prep supports BOTH 5th Wheel and Gooseneck hitches

Is it better than after market hitches. No. But it is a good product. If you find a truck you like that does not have the hitch prep. Don't let that stop you from buying a good deal.

I have it on a 6.5 bed, but I ordered my truck. It is on the sticker.

Thanks for the quick replies. I assume I should get a bed that does NOT have the spray in liner? I'm guessing it would be better to get line-x after the fact.

I had the Ford 5th wheel package installed on a 6.5 bed with the Ford factory bed liner already applied. The only difference I can see is the bed bolts are no longer bedlinered over. No biggie.

Can't tell it wasnt factory otherwise, and I believe it's covered under the truck warranty

It is a factory installed option also requiring the 4x4 option box to be checked. I'm wanting the same option, and will have to wait weeks because of this, Otherwise I could just find a suitable unit on a lot somewhere. Dealers won't install it b/c it requires bed removal.

There is a great video on YouTube where a fella installed one. Was pretty straight forward. If you ask me as already stated. It’s part of the warranty. A dealership near me only brings F-250/350 in with this prep as it cost so much more after the fact. BTW The bed will arrive with 1/8” pilot holes so you can’t mark and drill in the wrong place. The gooseneck kit is reasonably priced.

Tons with the 5th package installed here in NC. Although, from what I've read (on these forums), you'll probably get a better deal in Texas than NC.

not sure if you want a Canadian rig lol. Your dollar is strong but how are your import rules?? 15% tax. If your not in a hurry you’re better off building exactly what you want. I’m 2 weeks + into hopefully only a 12 week wait.

I am in TX and have only seen one on a lot with the install. Zero while perusing dealer websites. Wow- a 12 week wait. Soon it'll take longer to make a truck than a human!! 🤔
