For Months Now My 66 F100 With 240 Inline 6 with Autolite 1101 carb Has Been Frustrating me the truck still runs. I Beleve Thsi To Be A Carburetor Problem But not sure, I’m thinking valves ive tried a new carb and it still does it, when the engine is at driving RPM it runs just fine but going down hills there is a poping sound coming out the exhaust and it sounds like it’s coming from the carb also. When your driving and stop at a light or stop sign the engine starts running really rough and you have to put it in neutral (automatic trans AOD). At idle and going down hills there is a poping sound at idle in drive the engine runs really rough, this engine is high miles and is getting replaced in the near future with a rebuilt one, but I just want to drive my truck again please help. I am thinking of pulling the valve cover also I am thinking of running a Carter YF instead of the Autolite. PS This truck is equipped with ignigitor 2 electronic ingnition. I have always trusted my truck but now I am afraid to drive it because it dies somtimes and is hard to start..... Maybe a Fuel Mixture problem? Also pss I have tried messing with the idle mixture screw.
One thing to keep in mind is the 240 could come with either a load-o-matic distributor (vacuum advance only) or a dual advance (vacuum and mechanical advance). If your truck has the load-o-matic then vacuum is transmitted to the distributor diaphragm from two interconnected passages in the carburetor.
It all has to do with a spark valve that allows more vacuum to the distributor at higher engine speeds.
It sounds like you swapped to a new carburetor (replacement Autolite 1101) if you have a load-o-matic distributor and the carb is not matched to it then you will have issues.
Then again, Murphy does say he's swapped the carb and it still happens. Maybe it's nothing to do with downhill, maybe going downhill he lets off the gas and so it acts up the same as it does while idling stopped. I think the first thing I'd do is check the fuel filter and blow out the lines. Might be just starving for fuel.

One possibility, anyway.

I tee totally agree with this. If you are back firing or popping out of the exhaust when you are decelerating it is almost always a lack of vacuum advance. Same thing with idle problems. Remember the golden rule Ignition first, carburation second

Agree. I came across similar in a Jeep (with a Ford distributor???) and discovered the distributor shaft bushings were totally shot. Hard to keep point gap and dwell with a situation like that!
