New Excursion Guy

Hi Everybody...just bought a 2003 Ford Excursion Limited (6.0L Diesel). 57000 miles Great condition. Excited to join the club.

Of course I have a question already... I hear a squeal during acceleration and it sounds like a whistle. I've tightened all the clamps, so I suspect its either the Y Pipe or the Cold Air side of the Turbo.

I'll keep you guys posted on what I find out.

Check all your exhaust manifold bolts. I have heard exhaust leaks that squeal.

Is that something I can get to from under the vehicle? I can't see how I can get in there from the top.

Welcome! Congrats on the X! That's some low mileage you have there!

As far as the whistle/squeal, what sort of exhaust does it have on it? Stock? The 6.0 can be pretty loud as far as a whistle goes. The squeal part is what has me confused though. Could you post up a video of the noise?

It has a stock exhaust on it. The whole vehicle is 100% stock. Bought it from a guy who only used it to pull his travel trailer from the day he bought the vehicle. Otherwise it was garaged. I'm not a fan of cars sitting around, but this one seemed to look like it was used just often enough not to show any bad signs.

I've been troubleshooting the squeal for a few days. It is only on acceleration and it sounds like its coming from just behind the center of the front dash. When I get out of the vehicle I can hear it just behind the turbo, right where the Y pipes come up. From what I've read, I hear the bellows on the original Y pipes were a weakness and frequently developed cracks.

Thanks guys! The guy I bought this from referred to it as "the unicorn". Mileage this low and this condition is rare according to him. =)

Pull your wheel well liners from each side for full access to the exhaust studs. They are a bit tricky to get in and out, but not all that bad. Take your time and use your thinking cap while doing it.
