we were here last year at the same time just before I retired from the military. Also it is before spring break, and before the crowds at the beach. Weather yesterday was 74 degrees, today is supposed to be about the same.

The view this morning just after sunrise.

Our dogs love the water.

I still have my original boots on my '99 F350. Which brand/site are a good source? My boost pressure barely gets up to ten with normal driving, unloaded, even with a moderate acceleration to around 2500 RPMs. What is normal? The only thing I've done is bigger exhaust, 6637 mod, and Edge programmer set to level 1 "tow mode."

You need to test for leaks. Lookup boost leak tester. you can make one from a 3" pvc plumbing cap and standard air hose fittings.

I keep a 1/4" drive ratchet with an 11mm deep 6 point socket in the truck for this. excellent preventative maintenance lol.

One thing I did to combat this problem on my old '02 was to put a third clamp in the middle of the boot as it comes off of the spider to keep it from balooning and expanding.

One option I used and seems to be working well is to swap to the “T” clamp set up and really lock the boot I’m place

These threads are always odd to me. I ran Riffraff boots at 35psi for 140k miles and never had an issue. Try tightening them down a little more. The clamps aren’t so much about a torque value as it is about a feel. You’ll know when they are tight enough, they won’t blow off

I have been told BD Diesel has boots with the dimple/bump molded to them. I may look at these as well.

Brandon, I told my wife that I should have packed the extensions, but I didn't think that would happen. If we knew what was going to break before we left for a trip, then it would not break on the trip. Luckily there was an AutoZone 7 miles up the road with extensions to choose from. Now I have an 18" extension in my tool inventory.

The ring seems like a good idea, but like Stewart said they would need to be secured with JB Weld or a tack weld in my opinion.

Stewart, you had a 3rd clamp on the boot between the spider surface and the CAC tube surface? This might be a 3rd line of defense and fairly cheap. Will probably get a 3rd clamp for the driver side too, my OCD would not like non-symmetrical spider connections.

Jamie, what do you mean swap, I am not understanding what you are trying to say, but am interested.

Duck Fan, I hear you. I had zero problems with the RiffRaff boots for 3 years, but I can now be included in the "Bang...WTF was that?" club. I have tightened them so much that I could see the metal shavings falling down out of them. I am going to order new ones even though these are locked down, I think they have exceeded their comfort zone. I tightened them so much that with a 3/8 ratchet on a 18" extension the nut would not go down any further.

Yes.

Maybe order new clamps instead of boots? Might be losing clamping ability.

I've been using these for about 8 years now with only one blowoff and that was due to a loose clamp:

https://www.dieselsite.com/dieselsit...tercooler.aspx
https://www.dieselsite.com/1999-2003...erbootkit.aspx

They also sell a straight boot for the 6.0 IC swap that I bought a couple of years ago when I did my swap (they also sell it as a kit too: https://www.dieselsite.com/dieselsit...kitfor73l.aspx)

Since I have the RR plenum inserts I have t-bolt clamps on everything (https://www.dieselsite.com/springt-boltclamps.aspx): IC boots, spider boots, and plenum boots. 60 in-lbs and I've only had one blowoff in 8 years and that was near WOT going up a short on-ramp getting onto the freeway. Just my .02

NOTE: The longer boots make it an exercise in patience when removing and (especially) re-installing the CAC tubes unless you have a 6.0 IC, then it's a little easier.

I had to comment. My wife doesn't like to ride w me when I tow either. She seems to send the kids with me while she takes the dogs.

Happy camping and enjoy the weather!

Good it's not just me! s

So is blowing the boots a stock pipe issue? Assuming of course everything is tight. I have a Banks IC and they have a lip pressed into them from the factory. Based on what I'm reading is designed to help prevent the problem...

The CAC tubes have a recess and when installing boots like RiffRaff offers, they can be troublesome to keep on. This is the first time in 3 years one came off for me, but it wasn't fun getting it to hold again.

The fellas have provided several ideas to stop this from happening again.
