Found a perfect 66 CS

While at my local Wrecking yard,

The owner showed me a 1966 Camper Special, that he got from a guy that was the second owner. That owner bought it (from a family member)with 300 miles on it. The new owner put a camper on the back and used it for weekend and summer vacation camping. He had the engine rebuilt into a 390, with a different cam. In fact the front seat is full of new and newer parts- pair of 390 heads, new 309 crank, carb, and a bunch of other stuff. The stainless trim around the windows is perfect and the grill looks great and the whole body is near perfect. It was kept inside most of the time and the bed and tailgate look new. There is a little surface rust on the hood and the bed, but not much. The wrecking yard owner is looking to sell it. I got the feeling it would be at a very fair(read as low) price. The engine does run, but since it has been sitting for two years, you have to keep the choke pulled on- so it would need the carb rebuilt- and that is to be expected. Here are some pics:

66 CS Check out those mirrors- they don't have any rust.

Light rust on the hood.

Two-tone paint, with chrome down the sides.

I think the tailgate was stored while the camper was on, it looks too new.

It was about 5:30 and getting dark. I think the milage shows 86,000. But we know how that goes!

So if anyone is interested give DJ a call. He said that he had another truck too, I think it was a 68 (?) in good shape too. But I didn't check that one out. I've been to this wrecking yard twice. He is a nice guy and has good prices on a good supply of old fords. I'll be going back there for a 3G alternator, when it warms up. It was 25 when I got the 79 front end.

I may have to check out that yard when the weather is better. It's a long drive from the Tricities (Pasco WA) even longer when it's snowing. That grill looks brand new!

It's a 1967. If it was a '66, you'd be typing this in the wrong forum.

I'm not certain if they were made with stainless or chrome. I have the same ones on my truck and the metal is all discolored and pitted with rust, and the glass has no reflection anymore. His are older and in mint condition. Of course my truck sat in a corn field for 5 years too.

Why in the world would someone turn in a truck that nice to a wrecking yard?

Why indeed?

About 5 years ago, the San Berdoo pick-a-part yard had a 1973/75 F250 4WD Crew Cab and from the pics I received from an FTE member, it looked nearly new.

It had a unique feature, a huge step bumper mounted at the front w/a winch on it. The winch looked large enough to pull a deuce and a half from a swamp.

The guy asked me if I was interested in any of the parts. I said I want the entire truck, but if it cannot be bought, I want the step bumper/winch, rear doors and the tailgate.

Coupla days later I drove out to see it in person, it was gone. Rats!

Sold in '66, but year model '67. Looks like a super clean straight rust free low mileage original paint F250 . This one is a no brainer! Great color combo as well. Note has original issue 16" lock ring innie wheels, which were a carryover from earlier years, these rims only accept innie caps.
