I am doing a complete brake overhaul on an '83 F150. Please forgive me if this has already been answered somewhere but I couldn't find it.
Could someone please give me the torque for the front caliper bolt?
Hello All,
I noticed a lot of views on this but felt some clarification was necessary. I was searching for the torque spec for the old key style single bolt caliper "H" bracket bolt torque spec. Another post for an old Bronco led me to the Autozone repair guide for that model and they say 12-20 ft-lb which is reasonable for a 5/16"-18 GR8 bolt.
I'm going to go with 20 ft-lb and red Loctite and have no worries unless someone tells me different.
Thanks for this great forum and the interest shown in my original post.
Me I would go with 15 ft-lb, right in the middle but that's me.
I have never torqued that bolt and never had any issues been doing this since the late 70's.
BTW I just did them on my 81 F100.

Dave, thanks I'll see how it feels at 15 ft-lb. I'm doing this for my son and don't want to take any chances, normally I wouldn't torque it for my own use either.
Also, if you're still on I posted another question this afternoon about new brake shoes having different thicknesses and having never encountered this I don't know which goes where.
Thanks for your help!
I gather you have used red loctite before? That is pretty bad stuff to put on a bolt that needs to come out to service the brakes occasionally.
I was thinking the same and meant to post about it, blue would be the way to go.
Yea red you have to heat the crap out of before you try to undo the bolt/nut.
I think blue is what was on the new ones I got with the new calipers I just installed on my project.
I also have not used any when I have put the old ones back in and never had them "fall out", tighten down by hand to what I felt was good and call it done.

Thanks! My old bolts nor the new ones had anything on them so I was just trying to play it safe. Now that I know some new ones come with blue I'll just go that way.
No need to break out the torch for no reason later down the road.
