So I've been told that the shop my truck is sitting at will begin to install new tubular engine mount and tranny perch later this week... and while visiting the truck, ran into a guy who does welding (good because i've been told that the truck isn't the best thing to start learning on.. .lol)... and in my vast overactive imagination generating mind i was wondering why it's would not be good to extend the width of the cab out over those rather large cab steps???
They are quite large (my 3/4 ton 4x4 dodge Deisel has an exterior step that is half as wide...works fine). So by extending the width of the cab about 4 inches on both sides while keeping the step albeit a narrower step, this would give us more options for SEATS... which I am stil in need of..
Anyone do this or am i just whacked in my thinking... seems someone could design a drop in cab floor and step since I have to replace them anyways.. nice rust and holes are in abundance...
My stock seat back barely clears the arm rests when I tip it ahead, not sure how much wider you could go. Lots of different seats have been used. I'm sure there are threads where the subject of seat replacement got discussed in length.
Willowbilly... was thinking more about the mounting options at the bottom... some seats that would be a good fit width-wise have mounts that are a bit too wide... I know I'm gonna get hell for this but i kinda like the 2000 Dodge Ram seats with the middle fold down armrest.. built in seat belts are a plus there...
I don't think any of us have issue with what seats come from if they work for you. Some guys use the 80s Chevy ones that bolt up pretty easy. One thing to keep in mind, especially if you are 6'+ tall, is loosing hip room with more modern seats that come from a truck cab with more hip room than these old cabs have.

I saw these before also and was thinking it was a great idea. The one I saw had wiring and I believe it was fuel injection and the computer was mounted there. Since the ‘58 is a ratrod anyway......
and since my my daughter would be driving it, I could hide the GPS tracker and hidden camera controls......

Great pics... exactly what I was thinking... maybe angle iron on outer edge for brace and finish... that way there would still be a step as well as more cab surface area...
