I am trying to figure out if I have a reverse rotation motor or clock wise.
The block casting numbers E5Ae which should be around in the eighties.
The one thing I do know I went to prime motor and it did need to go counter clockwise. the motor did not come with any pulleys so here I am thinking it is a reverse rotation . Any help I will be very Grateful!
Check the distributor timing. If it's way too advanced, it may kick backwards. It's possible it's a marine engine with reverse rotation, but the block wouldn't be unique for reverse rotation, just the cam and distributor.
I'am not sure about Ford's, but in a Chevy they install a gear on the cam instead of a timing chain so that it rotates in the opposite direction. The distributor gear on the cam is ground so that the distributor turns in the normal direction. You have to wire the firing order in the opposite direction. regards Bruce
Are you talking about a true reverse rotation engine, as used in a marine application? Or are you confusing the term and thinking reverse rotation water pump which was used in many serpentine belt applications? That is only determined by the direction of the accessory belt as it moves around the pullies. It has nothing to do with the actual direction of the engine itself. It turns normally.

Yes I was confused . But after looking more into the applications it is for the accessories
not the rotation of the motor. It had me thinking with the Distributor going counter clockwise it threw me off. Senior moment.. So now I have a diagram of the timing covers
That show the differences. And now I know I have a clock wise rotation on the water pump.
Thanks All for your comments..
