I don't care if it's plastic, I expect it to stay shut when locked. My Raptor doesn't do that. But anyway, it's something for people to be aware of and check. Ford is replacing the lid for the guy in the video.
Major problem? I guess something like a flat tire would destroy his world and all that is humanity. He could have easily distilled that nonsense video down to 20 seconds and made his point.
Tons of hype about something super minor. Thanks for showing off all your money and guns, but any real criminal would have the top of that console busted off in seconds, even if it didn't open by pushing on it.
Interesting issue, but could have been shown in 20 seconds.
Obviously, the guy posted the video with that title as click bait to get views and/or hits. I agree it's minor, and I only posted it as a fyi for others to check.
I also have a handgun safe cable through the rear seat supports. While not the ultimate in safe type storage, it works. It's good for those times you can't carry concealed or other wise.
Yep....my console on my 17 is doing that....but.....not even locked. If it is shut, and "clicked" down....I just push it to right and it opens. But what I have found that "fixed" it temporarily is to slam it shut hard...or a little harder then normal and it won't let me push it to the right. I wondered myself if any other trucks had this issue. It's petty....but a pain in the AZZ when every time you put your arm over there...the dam lid opens!!!
No dog in this fight, and I'm not taking up for the fella, but the video description does say:
Thanks for watching guys, I hope yall are able to have a sense of humor about the video as I wanted to have some sarcasm to it since the issue is minor and is being completely taken care of by Ford. I still love my truck and like I said in the video every time I climb up in it I get a huge smile on my face!!!
Definitely a concern for those that lock it. For anything valuable though, opt for the safe or something more secure. Locking center consoles or glove boxes are a waste of time IMO, since the locks and mechanisms themselves don't take much to get past. For me, I don't bother locking it, would rather someone be able to get in easily vs. destroying the dash or console trying to get in. That said, in this case, the lock does even less than expected. +1 on the above...the video could've been 15-20 secs.
Forget about this guy’s security issue. He thinks a plastic box is a good place to store valuables. He deserves to have his stuff stolen!
Now me on the the other hand, I’ve got a MAJOR issue with the console. It was made of hard plastic on my 04 so the dog’s claws had no effect on the lid as she moved from front to back. This 18 has a lid covered with leather, vinyl, pleather or whatever and the dog’s claws are going to shred it over time. What was Ford thinking?
