My 351M died in my F-150 the other day. And I have figured it would be cheaper to just put in a 460 than rebuild the 351. I am going to look at a motor on Saturday out of an old big merc.
What should I look for? Any tell-tell signs that should steer me away. How many miles is to many? If I do get it how should I transport it in the back of my truck? any other advice to follow?

Ok this is what I think I know for now
Get all brackets and acc.
New motor mounts
new oil pan(rear sump)
that is all i know for now

Now here is another question. the clutch and clutch linkage. I am guessing i am going to need a fly wheel. How am i going to work all that out? any ideas?

truck specs are below

You will need to find truck 460 frame mounts and motor mounts. They are different than the cars. The oil pan will work, but the drain plug is in the side of the pan and sits right in the frame cradle. It is tight to get out, but can be done. Mine is this way. I now have a truck pan, I just haven't installed it yet.
If you use the stock exhaust manifolds, you will either need a truck passenger side manifold or you will have to notch the frame to clear the car manifold.
The bellhousing should bolt up. You will need a flywheel and possibly a bigger clutch set-up.
A bigger radiator will probably be needed, although mine stays cool with a 351 3 core radiator and a fan shroud the Lincold clutch fan.
