They will work fine. The older heads will give you more compression, but they use a different rockerarm set-up and require different pushrods.
Your engine should be about 8.0to1 compression. With the older heads it will be around 9.3to1 or so.
I use the stock heads on my 77(D3VE) and they should be the same as yours.
