I have a goal, a dream, and a vision that has been alive since the first time I drove across county....
I wanted, way back then, to be in one of those trucks that I knew somehow were captained by "Masters of the Road" and I wanted a truck that looked just like those did....
i dont see why they'd be illegal, as long as you didnt have em on. my friend has a set of KCs on his f100 and those things hurt your eyes about as much as looking into the sun does, its nice goin down back roads though and flippin em on, you get a much better idea of whats around you.
I like them on the older trucks, broncos, and superdutys. Im planning on buying a set once I get the cash. Anyone know where I can get a good lookin set for a good price?
I got them cab lights on mine but thats the way it was on the dealer lot. If I had ordered what I wanted they wouldn't have been there. And besides I forget their even there when I'm driving down the road cause I can't see them, so it doesn't bother me.
Originally posted by sinjin I don't even know what they're supposed to do.
They are called "ID LIGHTS"
Actually, it's the 3 in the middle, that identify to other road sharers during night driving that the vehicle you are passing by, overtaking or being overtaken by is WIDER than a full size pick up truck. (There is actually a D.O.T. dimension and regulation on these lights.) They are required on certain vehicles. Undersized vehicles do not require them, however if they are used, they should be in working order.
By wider than a full size pickup I mean a dually, or a trailer wider than the body of your truck, or combination. Semis and semi trailers, cube vans, flat decks, tow trucks, ambulances, and pickups which occasionally tow trailers wider than the truck body.
Hope this helps.
As for my vote, I wouldn't go out of my way to put them on my truck myself, however if it had come with them, I probably wouldn't mind. Kind of a fence sitter on this one.

I'm with you bigrig. I have had pickups that came with them on and I kindof liked the look but not enough to get up there and start drilling holes in the cab.
rebel the K Cs are illegal to use not to own but some states require them to have the covers on so you can't just flick them on at will. I know a lot of people running Anchorage to Fairbanks and on north have those so they can watch for moose and I think I would too if I drove that road.
I don't think much about them. If I was buying a new truck, I wouldn't have them installed. However, I would not let cab lights deter me from buying a used truck. One last thought; I have always tought of the cab lights as five more places for water to leak into the truck and cause rust.
I put a lighted moonvisor on my 150 and I love the look. Wish my 250 didn't come with them so I could put them in a lighted visor but ohwell. I won't lose sleep over it.
As for KC's. Forget them. I run 4 10inch Lightforces on the roof & 4 6inchers on the winch guard. Over 6 million CP. Alaska does have laws against lights but they don't enforce them cause there are so many roads without lights. Now California will jump all over you for it.
The big rigs have them for a reason, as bigrigfixer said. I know this will be an unpopular opinion, but I think putting them on anything smaller is the equivalent of trucker rice.
