Question convert a 89 fuel system to a 1990 fuel system???

OK i have a 89 Ford F-150 XL with 4.9L and 5 speed manual trans. I need to replace both fuel tanks and pumps and maybe the DFR if I can not clean and repair the old one.So my question is should I just get new tanks and new fuel pumps for the 1990"s series that way I can get rid of buying 3 fuel pumps and maybe a new DFR???? Will that work with the old tank switch in the the dash that I have or do I need to replace it????? The reason behind my questions are I'm trying to safe a little bit of money on this project, I know I have to replace the tanks anyway so I'm trying to do this with the least amount of time and money as possible...Any help and suggestion on this matter would be greatly appreciated....Thank ya"ll for your time. Cajun

That is what I would do, you will have some changes to make to the fuel lines too so you might want to look for a donor to pull those from.

You can do the swap and make up some tubes to go in place of the dfr for ease sake, or you can replace the lines with the newer style.

You can do it and it will be easier if you could get the fuel lines from a donor truck. If you have to make fuel lines you need a special tool to put the ends on the lines - ask me how I know. I luckily had a friend at a Ford dealer who let me borrow the tool. Barring that, I bet it will be hard to find.

I converted my 1990 to 1989 (opposite of what you are doing) so it can be done.
