I had neck surgery for 3 months and allowed my friend to borrow my excursion because I could not drive. I told him to put some oil in it which he did not do of course and now its locked up.
I heard that there may be a way to fill it with oil, take the spark plugs off and pour some oil in there too and try starting it by hand cranking it to get it to start.
Has anyone tried to do this successfully that can tell me what to do exactly?
I've done some work on my own like changing the brakes, rotors, radiator so I'm not a hooker in church when it comes to automotive repair. Just trying to get it to a pro.
I also noticed after putting a new battery on it, that a small amount of smoke emanates from the battery cables when you turn the key. Not at the connectors but from between the red and black plastic cover of the cable and the metal cable itself.
Not likely....the method you’re referencing is a method to get an engine unstuck from sitting for years. If it’s locked up from being run without oil, different issue. Likely you’ve got major issues with bearings, rings, both. You might bring it back with a rebuild depending on the level of damage. Wish I had better news....
1. You need better friends.
2. Your OLD friend owes you a new motor. Maybe.....
3. What, exactly, happened the last time it ran, before becoming locked up?
4. Take the serpentine belt off and try starting it again, it could just be a locked up accessory.
A factory fresh new V-10 is still available from Ford, it's for the Econoline van but with an oil pan swap it is a direct replacement into an EX.
How much oil is in it now? Are you certain he ran it out? Did it shut off while he was driving it or did this issue appear overnight...like he parked it and it wouldn't start the next morning? There are other things, as mentioned above, that could cause it to appear to be "locked up". Unfortunately, if it was run out of oil, the crank bearings are probably trashed and it'll cost as much or more to fix it than it would to just replace the engine.
