it has been a while since i have posted i hope all is well. here is the deal. i replaced my 2.73 gears with 3.73 gears with a limited slip diff. my question is how can i go normal highway speeds with less engine rpms? Im thinking I need to do a tranny swap but i am not sure. my current set up consists of a I6 300i. with 3.73 gears. 2 wheel drive. eddie baure edition. any help would be greatly appreciated.
Any transmission that would have come in a 1996 would have an overdrive, I think, with roughly 0.80 gearing. The only transmission that would help would be a 6 speed double overdrive, some odd thing I read about with a separate clutch housing. If you wanted slower engine RPMs you defeated your purpose with that gearing.

Check out gearvendors.com. See if they have one for your particular app. They are not cheap...but they are GOOD! I've been running one for about the last 100K miles...trouble free...and, in another 200K or so, it will have paid for itself in gas savings and reduced engine wear! What a deal!
There were f350 that came with the I6. No way they were turning the same rpms that my f150 is now turning. It’s got to have something to do with the tranny. I can’t think of any other explanation. I currently have the Mazda transmission. Engine is screaming at 55mph. I can’t tell you guys the exact rpms as I do not have a tach.
Going from 2.73 to 3.73 would increase your RPMs. Going back to a numerically lower rear end would lower your RPM’s. Any transmission for the I6 w/OD is going to have roughly the same OD ratio.
At 55 with stock tires your setup should be around 1900-2000 rpm. Is it possible that your rear end is geared higher than you think?
