I have a 93 f150 with a 5.0l automatic with the electronic overdrive. A few months ago the torch converter lockup started to act up. But after changing the fluid, filter and adding some transmission additive it stopped. But now ithas start to vibrate like a cellphone and makes a whinning sound like an old gearbox. Any suggestions on what it could be?
I doubt the transmission is dying.
The vibration sounds like the shuddering these models are famous for. Go ahead and have the torque converter replaced. Mine was replaced at 158k.
Regarding the whining and other strange stuff-
check for over/underfill - check for correct fluid (mercon).
