So here's my dilemma. I've finally made headway with my 390 and I've got everything I need to put it in and get it running. But I just came across a running 91 f350 with a multi port fuel injected engine and a zf5 5 speed with overdrive. And I know I'd be much happier with the 460 I'm just so far into the 390 and no one around here would buy it so it'll just sit in the corner of the garage until I buy an old car to throw it in.
I personally would keep the 390. Though I'm building a 460 for my 78, it's an easy swap from the orig. 351M. The 390s can be torque monsters, and put out plenty of power, plus footprint wise, they take up a bit less space in the engine bay. I've built several 390s in multiple cars, and love their power output. Honestly, in stock form the 390 vs that EFI 460 would likely put out more power. In the end though, it all depends on what your plans are for your truck in how you plan on using it. You're welcome to ship me that 390, and i'll find it a good home in a new chassis haha
Hard to beat the simplicity of that FE tho...... Its heavy and simple, but easy to deal with IMO.... hang on to it, never know what other truck you may get your hands on...
