Noise in Steering Column

Is anyone else experiencing a noise in the steering wheel during tight turns? Not really a sqeak, more a PITA rubbing.

Any fix?

Noise in Steering Column

My 02 makes a noise on tight turns. I assumed it was the power steering making a noise, and backed off a might, otherwise ignoring it.

Noise in Steering Column

Thanks Theo, but I need to clarify. The noise in in the steering wheel itself, right behind the air bag.

Yes, I have the exact problem. Not really a problem. It seems that during the steering wheels travel it rubs or bumps the housing of the steering collumn just under the steering wheel.

I was told that its a factory install problem. The steering wheels are not always set plumb, and may be set in not properly seated, so they can be sometimes tightened that way. Like if you cross threaded the cap on a jar of penut butter.

Now I have to go out and yank on the wheel of the '02, without Slik seeing me messing with her truck..

Not sure about anyone else, but instead of a rubbing sound I sometimes get a click.

My '99 SD C.C. DRW has the same noise ... a rubbing/squeaking sound as you spin the wheel. My brothers '03 Excursion had the same exact noise. He had it fixed at the dealer. They told him that it comes from the bottom of the steering column, and travels through it, so it sounds like it's coming from right under the steering wheel. I haven't fixed mine yet, since it's become music to me! Hope this helps.

I've got a slight rubbing sound/feel that comes from mine, too, but have written it off as worn bearings, a result of using the steering wheel to pull myself up into the truck.

I also started hearing a soft click type noise that seemed to ocurr when the truck was cold. The nosie would appear when the sterring wheel was turned more than a quarter distance. Once the truck is warmed up, I do not hear the noise. Have 24,000 miles on my 02.

Mine clicks when turning and it almost feels like you can tilit the wheel without moving the tilt lever.

My '01 SD has the rubbing noise in the column. It's been there since new. No problem, just a noise. Only there when turning all the way right or left, almost at end of travel. Sounds like plastic to metal scrub.
