I have a 07 F-250 with a 6.0 and it’s making a loud squeaking noise on acceleration. I’ve posted before with no result from anyone. Motor/turbo has less that 20k miles on it just been bulletproofed and studded within the past two years. I need any suggestions. Here’s what I’ve done.
Tested the belt with water, no change
Checked the belt for play, none to be seen
Everything on the belt system is stock, tensioner, water pump, alternator, steering, rollers anything that the 6.0 belt system has. It doesn’t do the noise all the time, only on acceleration or high idle in cold mornings. Some say it’s the tensioner, some say it’s a cracked Y-pipe or downpipe which it doesn’t sound like either due to the metal on metal and rotating sound it has. The pitch of the noise changes on acceleration, so it leads me to believe it’s something moving. Turbo spools up easily no power loss or anything runs like a dream other than the squeaking. ANY help that points me in the direction to fix it is appreciated.
Remove the belt and start it for long enough to see if the noise goes away. From there it is a process of elimination. Spin the various pulleys by hand and see if you can get any clues.
Make sure that the tensioner pulley spring is tight - it should be difficult to remove the belt and the tensioner should snap back to the 'tight' position.
From there I would start with the cheapest items, belt, idler pulley, tensioner pulley, etc.
^^^What he said and its most likely the Belt they make noise way before they actually need to be changed due to wear. Mine was changed within a few years of ownership due to squeek and I bought my 2007 new back in well, 2007
I’ve never heard a belt make this noise. It sounds metallic like taking two pieces of metal and rubbing them together or like something is sticking and not spinning. It sounds like something is being forced to spin to me. I’ll check when I get home

There was a similar prob posted here before and the bolts in the turbo behind the turbine wheel had backed out and were rubbing on the wheel.
