evaporative emission control system control valve?

96 Ranger has a purge canister just below the battery tray. Behind that there will be a purge valve controlled by the PCM that lets fuel vapor go from the canister back into the intake manifold. Right behind the purge valve is a 95-97 item called a flow meter that moniters the vapor flow back to the engine and reports back to the PCM. A bad flow valve will bring on a check engine light with a code something like 1443. What is the rest of your question?

One electrical connection and two vapor line push on fittings. I seem to remember it just dangles there behind the purge valve.

evaporative emission control system control valve?

I just had mine replaced a few days ago. My engine light came on with the 1443 code. Mine is a 96 B2300.

Before you replace it check it with an external voltage (12V) to make sure if it is working or not. Mine was acting wierd so I replaced the Valve and sensor. They are attached to the tubing that goes from the canister into the engine (throttle body, I believe).

Also make sure the lines are not dry and leaking.

You're looking at around $55 for the valve. $27 for the sensor. If you buy the lines with the valves the whole kit is around $90. All of this is only available at the dealer.

Here's a link to my post about the problem from a couple of weeks ago. The last post has a picture with the parts marked.

I just replaced the complete assy on my 96 Ranger (3.0L). I also had code 1443. The hose assy is about 2 ft. long with an 90 degree bend at each end.

Attached to the hose are two components, a purge valve and a flow sensor. one end of the hose attaches to the evaporative canister located below the battery and the other end is routed through an opening in the intake plenum and then attaches to a fitting on the intake plenum.

I decided to replace the whole assy because I wasn't sure which of the two units (flow sensor or purge valve) was faulty, and it looked much easier to just replace the complete assy.

The complete assy cost me $105.00 after tax at Ford DLR. It took me about 15 minutes to install and I didn't need any special tools.

The part # I replaced is: F57Z-9c987-CA.

I'm not sure, but you might need to have trouble code cleared after you do the work in order to clear the "check engine" light.
I cleared mine with a portable code scanner I purchased at the auto parts store for $100.00. Good Luck!
