You know I REALLY wanted to like this truck.
-- moderator edit--
I like turning wrenches and maintaining my vehicles.
Besides, around my rural town letting anyone under your hood is a crap shoot- at best.
Why did the engineers take a simple operation like twisting and pulling a rubber coated wire off a spark plug and turn it into the total BS they did.
Plastic fragile clips !!! WTH???
Even the guys who do videos on Youtube for money have issues with them.
Why do they want us to hate our trucks SO much that we will take them to a dealer for a simple plug change?? WHY?
Rant over- any tips? Am I supposed to do a dance and burn sage prior to attempting this once simple operation?

Mystery solved- they were broken.
Passenger side the first one had the parts in the housing but as the previous participant went he just chucked the pieces out of the way.
I'm guessing you're talking about the red tab? It's a redundant locking mechanism. I broke a few doing my plugs as well. I just snapped the connector back on and didn't have any issues. The red clip isn't even needed. I can understand your frustration though, really dumb design.
4 of mine were broken off when I bought mine used. You can replace the plugs. They aren't cheap though. I do recommend running a ziptie around the plug. It doesn't take much for them to pop off and cause a misfire DTC which is no bueno with the ecoboost.
Thanks guys.
5 of mine are broken.
A zip tie sounds like a good idea.
With all the heat in the engine compartment cooking the plastic these things don't have much of a chance.
