I'm looking for a stepside bed for a Ranger in CA. I think any year will work, and I'm fine with a front-end total job. Has anyone seen one at a local salvage outfit.
Also, has anyone tried swapping a stepside with a fleetside? Any known issues? Thanks!
Jon
Have you considered the bed off of a newer mazda ? the bed on my 01 has a semi-stepside look but is still a full width bed it might be a little easier to find. If your not already devoted to getting a splash bed.
Hey there jhance, 98rangerstep and sparkymazda01 and welcome to FTE!
I'm a cheap ole' son of a gun! I've given up on some salvage yards around here, due to the increase in parts costs. We have many collision shops that offer a wide range of vehicles that have been Totaled by insurance companies. They will sell to you if you have a way of getting the part(s) out of there in a reasonable amount of time. Even most insurance companies hold auctions to rid their inventory of good parts vehicles. No, you dont have to be a salvage yard in most states to attend these auction. Your insurance company would be glad to give you a list of auctions in the future. Just have a tow truck or trailer available to get it out of there. Hope this helps... Talk with you guys later....
Thanks for the suggestions, guys. I spoke with the de facto Truck Wrecking outfit here in the bay area, where the totals get sold off to. Said they had seen a couple in the past few "years". Not encouraging. Course, I see them driving around all the time, now that I am looking for them. If I find one back east, I'll let ya'll know. Thanks again.
