I have found a 2018 F250 on a dealer's lot that has everything I would like (and then some) except Remote Start. Is there a difference from the what the assembly line would do as opposed to the dealership?
My dealer in installed the Bi-directional Ford aftermarket remote start. It comes with a small second fob that will go along with the trucks key fob. I thought I wouldn’t like the extra fob but I don’t even notice it there. I does work way better than the factory installed version though. It will work from a much farther distance and even from inside buildings where my wife’s factory version in her F150 won’t work. I’m very happy with it.

Does anyone know if Ford will give warranty issues even if its their aftermarket version installed by their dealers? I wish I would have went with remote start from the factory, but didn't, and by the time I contacted the dealer it was too late to add it. I wouldn't mind having it so I can leave it running when I go into a store for a few minutes with my dogs still in the truck (In Texas, so AC running for them is a must), but I'm worried Ford would give me grief if there was a warranty issue. IF I do get one installed it will only be at a dealer with only Ford parts.

Yes there is a difference.
Ford does not offer dealers a kit to install factory remote start. The only thing Ford offers the dealers is an add-on security/remote start module. Your truck being a 2018 you do have a new option available that didn't exist for the 17's and older.
For vehicle security with basic remote start (new option): Part # JS7Z-19A361-A
Dealer installs this module and activates remote start with IDS. The module will include a jumper wire inside the box, make sure the dealer plugs in this jumper wire. From there you can use your original keys and hit LOCK/UNLOCK/LOCK and the truck will remote start.
If you want long range remote start, use that same part number above, and also get JS7Z-15K601-A. This is the long-range FOB, good for about 1/4 mile range.
The last option is to get the bi-directional FOB instead of the standard one. This part number is JS7Z-15K601-B, and again must be purchased along with the security module. Same 1/4 mile range as the other FOB, however this one will flash and beep confirming that the truck started. This is good if you regularly park your truck somewhere you can't see it and need to know if it did actually start successfully.
The advantage to going with Ford's remote start system is that it's entirely plug-and-play, so there's absolutely no wire splicing at all.

No warranty issues. The parts are considered Genuine Ford Accessories, and carry the 3/36 bumper-to-bumper warranty, or 2/unlimited, whichever is the greatest benefit to the customer.
Pocket, do have any cost for the above part #'s and installation? I am in the negotiation stage right now.
I did some pricing off the interweb and I am looking at about $235 retail for the JS7Z-19A361-A.
Good to know when I get back into the ring with these guys.
Thanks.

Every dealer is different. Doubt they'll throw it in but the labor shouldn't be all that much since it's a simple plug in install and computer activation. If they're trying to hit you up for an hour or more of labor that should be a red flag.

Would you happen to know if this part might work on a 2017?
To Pocket again.
We got them to add the security module. I did mention to plug in the jumper wire which got me a deer in the headlight look from the salesman, but he said he would pass it onto the technician. How will I know if they plugged in the jumper wire or not?
Hope to pick it up Friday.

Talk to the service department. They will have your We-Owe written up as a service repair order to have the installation done. Find out who is handling that and make sure it gets done with the remote start activation.
What does this jumper do and how will I know if it is plugged in.
The jumper allows remote start to work from the original key using lock/unlock/lock. Without the jumper, that function wouldn't work even if remote start is enabled.
Hello hope this reaches you since the thread is old, i seen a video of one using this on a 2015 i can assume it would work on my 2016 xl? my main question is does this involve any Forscan?
