My 2015 XLT F350 SRW CCSB is rated to tow 16K and a payload of 3400 lbs. Buying the XLT over the Lariat saved me enough to pay for the diesel engine and increased my payload over the Lariat.
Smart move. You gonna be OK without the heated toe massage though?
Get a 350 with either the 11,400 or 11,500 GVWR package. That trailer is going to need all the payload you can get. I'm not arguing the capability of a 250 vs a 350, but rather the consequences if you get scaled by some eager commercial cop.
When I was going through this process to haul my 5ver I ended up with the same conclusion I need a 350. Then came the decision if I could afford (payload) by choosing a mid / upper trim. I dug around and found the option weight documents. When I optioned out my vehicle it came to a loss of 587lbs. I ended up downsizing the tires/rims to save Wt. Also not choosing the power folding foot bars. Even opting for no bed liner. My wants got slashed because I was climbing to the 1/2 ton of options. Snapped back to reality I was buying an new Rig for payload. I know there are many on this and other forums who don’t get wrapped in the GVWR or payload and only focus on the GAWR (mainly rear axel) and the load rating of the tires, but me I want to be 100% legal and safe and within the posted guidelines.
Currenly I’m now trying to find a hitch that best deals with bed rail to fifth wheel structure closeness. I’ve looked at many specs. Currently leaning towards the curt slider. I’m hauling a 2015 Open Range 311FLR. Anyone on this forum hauling an Open Range Light with a 2017-2018 F-350.
Thankx Bill

Have you looked at the Andersen Ultimate hitch? The rail version is steel and weighs about 45 lbs. The goose ball version is aircraft grade aluminum and weight 35 lbs. I have that one with a short bed and no problem turning with the max turn front cap.

I have but can’t remember does it have vertical adjustment.
When hauling with the 150 (via gooseneck to conserve Wt, .....warranty was not voided as the Open Range Light fifth wheels allows for this) I had some situations where body roll or departures/arrival On ferries had my cab rails way to close to the bottom of the cap. From what I’ve read the F-350 is higher again by 2 inches. Currently I can’t get access to my 5th wheel so don’t have a ground to leading deck height. I can only assume that if I have to raise the gooseneck adapter ( don’t even know if Im already at max height) I’ll be a little more unstable or more concerning putting more stress on the pin box frame. I think a Fifth wheel hitch would be better at raising that higher. I really don’t need a slider now so I suppose I could look at the B&W companion but again it’s vertical height adjustment is less the others such as the Curt. See my dilemma.
All advice welcome.
Is there a specific area where I should post this
Wow forgot how much bed space would be used up with the Anderson setup. Maybe I’ll just look at a longer gooseneck adapter. And the saga continues. Oh well helps keep my mind off the endless waiting for my F-350 build.
