My rear rubber stem had to be replaced after six weeks this last time. The one before took 2 months. The truck is only used to pull camper trailer and has 10,000 miles in a year and half. When not is use it is stored in shop. It has never been in snow or salt.

The key here gents is that new rubber stems have to be installed at the same time as new rims. If you've ever had a steel stem in an aluminum rim, that rim should be considered suspect. Galvanic corrosion doesn't take long to form nor start causing significant damage.

I am sick and tired of having to add air to my tires before I take a shower and get dressed to go anywhere. And may I say, I despise the rubber valve stems. They are wiggly, wobbly crap. Can't get a good seal with the air chuck most of the time. And they magically place themselves at the six o'clock position - being old and 6' 4" means I have to get down on the ground and struggle to get up four times for this stupid operation - daily - not monthly.
Ford's big idea of simply replacing the metal valve stems with rubber stems is good for their wallet in the short term, but is going to cost them in the long run.
So the question amongst all this ranting is: has anyone had after market metal valve stems installed that work with the TPMS and don't leak? I'm coming up on new tire time and want to take my business to a place that can actually fix this problem.

My brother went to Costco and they replaced the stems 8 months ago. He no longer has the problem. Tpms works as designed.

Can you get a part # for those? And confirm they are metal? A small caution for those deciding to go this route - your stems (and maybe wheels?) won't be covered under warranty any longer.

They are not metal. They are high pressure ruber stems. He does not have the rotation issue with rubber stems that you have. Do not know part number.

Update: the front left and outside right were replaced with rubber stems and seem to be holding air. I no longer have the nice cap and have to unscrew a cap, but, if I never have to add air on a daily basis, is ok with me.

Good luck with that. I have rubber stems on all four corners and still have to add air to the front every other day and the rears about every three weeks.

Did you have the 4 aluminum rims replaced at the same time as new rubber valve stems were installed?

This problem is not new with the '16's and '17's. My '03 dually Lariat had this problem from 25K on, with the fronts and from about 55K on the rears. The fronts are OK now that I cleaned the wheels and put in Aluminum stems myself, but the rears got to the point of losing 50+lbs a day, even after cleaning and replacing stems. I finally threaded the rears for screw in stems made out of aluminum and sealed with teflon tape and now I can go 3-4 months without any pressure loss. The only problem with screw in stems is that you can't run TPMS with them, I didn't have it so I didn't care.

Just got off the phone with ford dealer parts dept. about leaking valve stems. When I gave them my VIN # They said there is a problem with the valve stems. They said at first there was a tsb, then retracted that. Said there wass an issue SSM 47326 with a valve stem service kit that uses the existing TPMS monitor with a ne valve stem f2gz 1700 d. I am working with service advisor to get new replacement valve stems installed before galvanic corrosion sets in and makes wheels unserviceable.

Just joined so I could post my valve stem leak story too.
Purchased truck (350 dually Lariat) back in Feb. 2018. First leak started in right rear in May. Went to dealer for warranty repair. I believe all they did was clean rim and reinstall valve stem. Worked pretty good, only leaked about 3-5 psi a month. Then the left rear started leaking about the same sometime during the summer. I went back to dealer and they did the same repair. Worked ok but still needed to re-air every few weeks. But when my front left leaked (now in December) it went down about 15 psi a day. Went to dealer for more repair. They cleaned and reinstalled the stem but this time they said they would replace the 3 rims. They would call when rims were in. Went home feeling better about this plan. But wait, they called and said Ford would not replace rims without first seeing pictures of the corrosion, please come back so we can take pictures (this is 30 miles each way). On my way back to dealer the front left went down 20 psi (after about 15 miles). I had to stop to re-air. Called ahead and told dealer I would not be driving it home and to please have a loaner available. They agreed. So 2 weeks later I call and they say truck is ready but Ford would not agree to replace rims. All they did was clean the rims and replace the 3 valve stems (with original part # FR3Z-1700-C). They all held air for the ride home but time will tell. If they leak again my next call will be to Ford HQ.

Welcome to the best Ford forum! Sorry to hear you got hit with this, too. I was 'patient zero' for this in Alaska and it took a lot of working with my dealer. Ford did replace all 4 of my rims (eventually) and more valve stems than I can count. At the time of rim replacement, they put in all new rubber valve stems. Everything has been stable and holding for months now. If your dealer's solution doesn't work longterm, I'd also call Ford directly. Good luck and let us know how it goes!

I have not posted an update because I have photos that I have been unable to get uploaded for some reason.
Anyway, December 27th I bought six new tires and the dealership said there is an updated repair kit. The "kit" consists of one metal valve, part number FR3Z-1700-C. They replaced all four rubber valves (which still leaked) with the new valve stems and I haven't had any leaks since then.
The down side to this is they charged me $65.00 for each of the four valve stems. I maintained that the problem was reported, and unsuccessfully repaired under warranty and the update should be covered by warranty. I got no sympathy from the dealer. I haven't entirely given up on getting a refund from Ford for the cost of the new valve stems, though.

Edit: Finally got them to upload!

I'm back already. Picked up truck from dealership with 3 new valve stems back on Jan. 2nd. Now, on Jan. 29th I noticed the LF tire registering 3-4 psi lower than the RF. 3-4 psi is not bad but the 2 fronts have been spot on since that last repair so the problem seems to be back. The rears are holding steady. I called Ford and explained my situation. My question was would it be bad to change to a closer dealership in the middle of my unsolved problem when the original dealership seemed to be trying to help me (it was Ford who balked at new rims). He said I could go to any dealer I wanted. I talked with the service manager at my local dealership (they worked wonders on my '99) and he said when you're ready, bring it in, and they would make their assessment and determine a course of action. He also said they haven't heard of this problem....I don't know about that though. So I have a short trip to make this weekend and maybe next week take it in. To be continued, I'm sure.
