Getting new tires for my 2017 F350 CCSB with factory 20" rims.
Leaning towards the factory size LT275/65R20 or thinking about the 35-12.50R20's. Both in the ST MAXX Coopers.
Anyone have any opinions on these tires and or the size difference?
The 35-12.50 is only rated at to carry 3195 pounds vs 3750 on the stock size. That's a 555 pound reduction in carrying capacity per tire.
If you tow heavy loads, gooseneck or 5ver I'd consider that a concern.
Also the recommended minimum rim width for the 35 is 8.5" I believe the factory wheels are 8 inches wide.
I’ve run ST Maxx’s in the past and they’re great. I run the STT Pro’s now though. And as far as the rim width goes I have not had an issue with my 12.5 inch tires on stock 8 in width rims. Also if you’re interested in the STT Pro they have more options for tire sizes that also have a higher load rating
I've been pleased with mine. Have 60k on them now, and will be changing them out before towing season resumes in the spring. Only gripe is wet road traction went downhill fast in the second half of their life.
Right now it's between the Maxx or Nitto trail grapplers, running 295-70-18 again.
I currently have the factory Michelin AT2 tires that I really liked until the snow came. How disappointing. And we sell Michelin at my place of work. lol
My main concern is still to have the ride quality, and low noise level.
I'm currently running 35-12.5-20 on my 17 350. Also have two more 350s with same tire on it. These tires are my go to now. I put 65k on my last set with no issues. Also tow 16k 5ver and occasionally pull 15-22k gooseneck. No issues what so ever.
I prefer the lighter weight and on road manners of the AT3, that the tire I usually buy.
For anyone concerned with having the toughest AT tire the Maxx is number one for me and my local tire dealer. They put the Maxx on the logger's trucks because those tires have proved to have the fewest flats running around the logging back roads.
OP- I've run 35x12.50x20 on stock wheels many times without any issue or concern. The 35" Maxx is a pretty heavy 70lb tire, I would have concern with the performance drop on my 6.2, not so much with a 6.7. You're concern is still ride quality and noise, I would look real hard at the AT3....
