Transmission Crossmember T19, E4OD, ZF5

Hi all,

Trying to figure out exactly what the options/caveats are on this.

Existing Motor/Trans: 1985 460 with 4spd

Frame: 1996 F350 Cab/Chassis that had a 7.3 w/ E4OD

Everything is 2wd.

I am wanting to put the 460 and a manual transmission on the 1996 frame.
At the moment I can't recall if the 460 has the T18 or T19 but they are the same dimensions, right?

Options are:

1. I keep the T18/T19
2. I swap to a zf5

I have the 86 Cab/Chassis 460/4spd crossmember and I have the 96 Cab/Chassis 7.3/E4OD crossmember.

I don't have a zf5 or zf5 crossmember but can look for one.

I've read several posts but on some it mentions drilling frames holes and others it says certain swaps will line up.

So what would be the process if going with either option? Specifically regarding the crossmember. The others posts have a lot of good info on the rest of the process so not needing that info.

Nevermind on option 2. For that I know I'll need to get the zf5 crossmember.

Just needing to know if the 86 T18/T19 crossmember will work in the 96 frame without modifications if I keep the 4spd.

I'm not sure how well this holds true, but when I swapped the ZF into my '87, I used a 5-speed crossmember (and matching brackets) from a 94 or 95 F150 (Mazda trans) and did not have to drill any holes in the frame of my '87, which was originally equipped with a 4-speed manual.

Thanks - hopefully that is the case. Once it warms up, I'll take some measurements and see if it is.

Didn't warm up but did some measuring and just wanted to report back.
It looks like it won't require any drilling if I put the T18/19 in. The 1996 frame already has holes located forward of the holes the e4od crossmember is bolted into. Tooks some rough measurements from the 1985 frame and those holes are pretty spot on with where the T18/19 crossmember is bolted into.

Worth noting the 1985 frame does NOT have the rearward holes (so putting an e4od in there for example would require drilling). This just confirms all of the forum posts as it would also apply to putting a zf5 in the 1985.
