Absolutely! Only if you post pictures of yours. I just moved to Texas from Denver so I am missing the wheeling. We would make 2 Moab trips per year and now it will only be one. Oh well.
the WDH will transfer load to the front axles by way of the torsion manner that the WDH works....this will result in better handling and less rear end sag.
the standard hitch will put all the weight on the rear axles...easier for rear to sag....poor handling at max or over max ratings.
why not do what the manufacture says and if you are going to go over 5000, use a WDH.
the 5K number is what they felt comfortable with simply because they didn't think that anything over 500 lbs without putting something towards the steer wheels was safe enough.
That does not mean the sticker is in error, just conservative numbers.
These are also the numbers for the maximum capacity for a bumper mounted ball.
I agree this is a confusing topic. You should make sure that you fully understand the rating of your truck (per the Owners Manual), your receiver and your trailer. Also, you will need to know the correct way to secure your load to the trailer including the rating of the straps/chains/attachment points. If unsure, seek the advice of a professional. With this approach you will be ensuring a safe trip as well as avoiding tickets or worse yet should you be involved in an accident, a lawsuit.
Good looking YJ! Nice to see a few of the square headlighters still around. Are your running prorock 60's?
I bought it built. It’s got an 8.8 in the rear and a 44 in the front both with Detroit’s. Only thing I want to do eventually is swap axles to tons with ARBs. But it’s good to go now!

Nothing wrong with buying a built Jeep, you don't have to deal with the headache of a build
I built mine quite a few years ago, one of those things that starts small and snowballs bigger and bigger.
Im running a hp dana 60 front, 14 bolt rear, 5.13s, 40's. Mines doesn't get driven on the street too much as it is spooled front and rear. Are you sticking with the 4.0? I swapped to a Chevy 350 with FiTech fuel injection about two years ago with a th400 and Atlas transfer case.
Bringing the thread back, I tow that plus my brothers 84 Yota down to Moab on a borrowed gooseneck flatdeck. Even with the heavier 350 my jeep still weighs around 4K or a little less. I post a picture as soon as I figure out how

Awesome! Yea! Post up a picture or two. I wheeled a JK pretty hard for several years and then almost rolled it on the Escalator on Hell’s Revenge last year so I figured it was time to sell it, pick up a 6.0 and get a crawler!
You have actual weights on your YJ???? That would help me a bunch if you have real weights from your YJ. Your YJ must weigh more than mine with the one ton axles and 40s. I was guessing 5,000 lbs but I am going to weigh it once I get it. It has a 4.0 from a Cherokee and an Atlas 3.8.
Local county dumping station has a scale to weight before and after. I used the jeep like a truck once and took some stuff to be dropped of. Two trash cans in the back strapped on top of the fuel cell haha. Ill look for the sheet tonight for the actual weight.

Thanks a bunch! That would be awesome if you had that. I looked for weights online of built YJs but couldn’t find much information. With your V8, one tons and 40s it has to weigh more than my baby Jeep.
