96 5.8 engine build/

Looking for some input for an engine upgrade/build.
I have a 1996 f150 with the MAF 351w that I would upgrade now with the option to reuse parts for a future stroker rebuild. Looking at Heads, cam, intake and exhaust.

Have some Trickflow 205 heads available to use.

Cam would be new, yet to be determined

Intake is were my big questions are. I have seen the Edelbrock truck performer and also the Typhoon lower, but not sure if they are the best options or to go with something else. Benefit of them is all the connections remain the same.

With all of that said is the factory EFI system and computer still the way to go or is there a better option aftermarket?

I have done a lot of searching but just havent been able to find a good answer on these.

Thanks for your time.

You have MAF already and transmission control is built-in so the easiest and most cost effective way forward is to just use the existing system.

Leave the cam alone, change out your rockers to rollers with 1.7:1 ratio. This will act as replacement towing cam - about half way between stock and E303.
Your current intake is very similar to Edelbrock.
Put on shorty headers to bolt up to stock system - spend money on a good set which will save a lot of time and effort. The difference between long tube and short is minimal.
The changes you do really depend on what your end use is. It is a truck so putting on Mustang go fast goodies might not be what. Have fun.
I am about to put in a scat 347 kit for my 302, need to stay with the same motor - yeah CA DMV....

A bit large for a 351 truck motor but they would work pretty nice on a 393/408.

The Eddy Truck intake was designed as an upgrade for a stock 5.8, if you have designs on making any real HP this intake is all wrong and past evidence says it really strangles a stroker. The Pro Products Typhoon is a copy of the car style Eddy Performer with the single side facing TB, this shorter runner intake is the better choice for a 5.8 with a 0-5000rpm powerband but it's a bit small for a 400 inch stroker.. would be great for torquer build though with a max 350hp. Note.. you can't use this or any other aftermarket lower with a factory upper.

As for a cam, decide on what displacement you will use and what powerband you want and pick the rest of your parts first, then pick the cam that best matches all of that. The stock cam is pretty good for a stock cam which means it is emissions friendly, but unless you want nothing but torque the 0-4000rpm powerband will be restrictive.. especially so with a stroker.
