BDS Fox Shocks

17 F250 Platinum. I've been doing a ton of research on leveling kits. I really like the Carli Commuter/Backcountry, but I feel like its more than I need. My ride is 95% pavement queen. I've also been researching the BDS 2 inch kit with Fox Shocks. From what I've read, the Fox shocks with BDS are stiffer than stock. I don't want the ride any stiffer than stock.

So questions for those who have knowledge on the two kits:

Are the Fox shocks that come with the two kits the same?
Can the Fox shocks that come with the two kits be revolved to ride softer?
Are the Carli coils stiffer than stock?

What I am looking for is a ride that is comparable to, or softer than stock, with a little bit of a rake to compensate for loads. Thoughts?? Thanks!

I have the 2" BDS with Fox Shocks. I think the ride is a little softer. I would not say a complete game changer for me but it does seem to ride a little better. Definitely does not beat me up like the ranchos did.

I am doing a direct replacement and went through a little bit of a run around trying to get the correct information. I was dealing directly with Fox, and was not getting accurate information. I am not sure if this will help you or confuse you more but ill share.

According to the Fox representative they don't have a Fox shock that is valved for the 17'. After speaking with Stage 3 Motorsports and talking to people on this forum it turns out that BDS offers a shock valved specifically for the 17' truck. I originally ordered these Fox Shocks (which are valved for the 2016 and lower) but am going to return them.

Front: 980-24-677
Rear: 980-24-647
Bushing: qty (2): 014-11-002-A
(2): 213-28-007-B

I went back to the Fox rep an he confirmed that the BDS/Fox shock was different than the shock that I had ordered. He also said that anything BDS would do to a Fox shock in terms of valving would be top notch and that he predicts that BDS/Fox 2017 shock would soon be sent to Fox to be sold under the 2017 specific application. (would have been nice to have this info before I ordered them.)

These are the shocks I then ordered and will be installing:

FOX-98224710-2 2017-2018 F250 & F350 4WD BDS Fox 2.0 Series Front Replacement Shocks (Pair)

FOX-98224717-2 2017-2018 F250 & F350 4WD BDS Fox 2.0 Series Rear Replacement Shocks (Pair)

https://www.stage3motorsports.com/FO...nt-Shocks.html

Regardless of which shock you choose, I have heard only good things in regards to ride improvement... so good luck!

Fords get a stiff ride from soft shocks. That's why the ride suffers as the stock Ranchos wear out.

A firmer shock might actually improve the ride. I like shocks as firm as possible in compression. Often a little on the soft side for rebound.

I am completely happy with the BDS Fox shocks, I agree that the ride improved. That said, it's not hard as the factory rebranded Ranchos turn to a **** ride after 5-10K miles.

The BDS branded Fox shocks are currently better. I guess the ones straight from Fox will be similar soon.

I'd just paint them black anyways. (dare someone to go white with red boots)

They have a large Fox logo with a small BDS wrap above it.

See pic below.

Al shocks get ugly quick in the snow belt. Even clear coated ones.

I just dislike shiny things. If you go that route, you have to keep them pristine, otherwise, they grab your eye and become an eyesore as they age. And I'm going with a black and white look. I want everything in my wheel well black. The heavy steel parts get POR15, everything else gets hosed down with a rattle can of VHT.

Absolutely! I currently have both types of shocks at my house (BDS/FOX and FOX). I was going to return the Fox only shocks or try to sell it to a buddy who has a 2013. If he decides to buy them from me I will open up both sets of shocks and do a side by side comparison.

Brutally disappointed in these BDS/Fox shocks and I’ll be pulling them off as soon as possible. They are unbearably stiff. The one positive things is they are great on smooth roads. The truck feels more planted. I would love to give you feedback after the truck is loaded but I honestly can’t wait to take them off. This was definitely a big let down for me.

Please Refer to post #16 for Updated Opinion

Wow, really? I hate to hear that. Thanks for the feedback. I was about to pull the trigger on these. I think I will wait a bit.

You are literally the only person I have heard make such a claim. Please elaborate on what exactly about them you dislike and in your opinion, what is better!? I have to whole heartedly disagree with you and I have run factory Fox, Icon, and King in the past, this system is the best riding I've ever owned.
