The definative Mercury hubcap thread

My Mum truck has Ford hubcaps but because it is registered as a Mercury and has a Merc grill and everything else, it will stay a Merc. No matter what the S/N says.
But I would like to get the appropriate hubcaps for it and started looking for a picture or a sales brochure that would prove it. I found two pictures from old trucks that seem to be old originals and thus have the right ones.

I was pretty sure these were 1 ton hubcaps but in the thread someone says they are from a 3 tonner.
Came from this thread: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...od-work-3.html

From a completely dif site and the truck was a tonner.

More possible hubcaps that I could not identify but feel if they are too fancy, probably belong to cars.

I think this one above could be a truck hubcap.

Wow Mike! That is a beautiful Merc tonner. I have such an aversion to wws on a truck, I have been known to buy flat black spray paint at Ace in Anacortes and spray them out before boarding the ferry, lest anybody I know should see them. And yes, those are correct caps for your tonner.

That is really a great 3/4 shot of the truck. I would turn the wws around on the rims; they look light duty and I like that for the ride. Those are front bumper brackets on the back in my opinion. So they should be the correct rear brackets or leave the bumper off. And the exhaust tips and hitch? Should be more subtle.

Here’s one that came with a half ton wheel. Don’t know the era. If anybody needs it it’s yours. Stu

That's a '41 passenger car/half-ton 'cap.

Ok so how much would you pay for a set of tonner caps? Lets say they looked like these.

You know one has to wonder if it is not meant to be if you look and there they are.
Suposed to be rare.

I think I would send the photo to some vintage car metal outfit for an estimate, even a rough estimate. It could be just me, but I can handle some dents and dings in the truck's body, but the hubcaps should be really nice if the truck is gonna have them. I think I paid 75 bucks each for a really pristine set of caps for my ford tonner, and I'm glad I did.

They are really rare. But like GB suggests, if they are not really nice they are not so desirable. I would say $100 for these.

They are rare, but a buyer "looking for them" is also rare. So the law of supply and demand comes into play. If you can find a nice matching set of four for any of the "tonner" caps that would be cool.

The early tonner caps had the V8 logo in the center. When the six was added to the line they switched to the ford script. A nice set of V8s would be appropriate, but not as cool as the mercs.
