Ratz...
How do you guys keep rats or other animals out of your toy haulers / campers? I just got my trailer back from the shop. Apparently a rat chewed on the fuel line amongst other things. He said their getting in from climbing up the tires. They recommend those black boxes (bait stations). I have a pretty large open field behind my property were I keep my trailer. Looking for ways to keep these a holes out.

the problem I see with "Bait" they will die where its hard to get to... and will smell up the trailer real bad.
seal up any area they can get into...
no food stored in trailer.
traps outside of trailer.. aka under trailer and near wheels/jacks.
even a few traps inside of cabinets... but check often.

We use the Valterra sniff and stop kits. Some online reviews are horrible, but another couple recommended it to us at the rv dealer. We have used it the past 3 winters and have yet to find ANY sign of mice in the trailer when we open it up in spring. We remove all food products for winter and give it a thorough cleaning before we pack it up. Grille stays in trailer and has yet to cause an issue. Spray perimeter of floor with peppermint smelling stuff, and add that to backs of cabinets and nooks and crannies that the little buggers love. Sprinkle stuff on ground under trailer and spray around springs, tires and landing gear.
I don't use glue traps or poison for the reasons previously stated. I'd rather keep them out in the first place then have them curl up and die somewhere I can't find.

My first line of defense is bait. I think I'm using D-Con. Those are outside near the tires, one on each side of the trailer. In the summer I'm replacing the bait cube at least once a month. Less frequently in the winter.
I put one bait trap inside, just in case. I usually run three "servings" of Fresh Cab, one behind each set of floor cabinets. It makes the trailer smell like freshly cut pine trees.
My trailer is parked in a gravel storage lot with a billion other trailers. Mine is close to the edge where there is a field five trailers over.
So far I haven't had any critters inside, but they have certainly been outside taking the bait.
