Power source

2015 f250..looking for a source of power to tap into close to the dash either under hood or by steering wheel for aftermarket switches

Inside the cab or under the hood? And what will the switches be running? You have to plan on how much power your loads will require controlled by the switches.

1.5amp lights..maybe 5 or 6...found a place on the fuse box that works...but am looking for another source for other ideas

Do you want a power live all the time, or power on with the key, or power on with parking lights?

Then the headlight switch wiring is your best bet.

I don't have a 2015 diagram, but I suspect if you probe each of the wires as you turn the switch on and off you'll end up finding the one that turns on and off with the light. A yellow colored wire has been used in the past, so if there's a yellow one, start with that.

If you tap directly into the truck's circuits, keep the amp draw low like you described. If you want to add more you will have to do something different, probably add a relay. There may already be circuits in your truck for your use, you will have to read the link I gave you carefully, some trucks have that stuff, some don't.
