Hey everyone, new to the forums but I've been reading on here quite a lot lately so much good info. Wife and I recently acquired a TT and need something to haul the 6 of us(4 boys) and the TT(about 5k dry) so the Excursion hunting began. As y'all know the 6.8's are everywhere and very affordable but I would love to have a 7.3(in case it ends up a DD) and I found one in the Dallas area. Does anyone know of a good mechanic down there that would check it out? It's at a secondary dealer so don't know if they would take it to mechanic for exam or if mechanic would have to go to their lot, when I called they didn't sound just real eager to work with an out of towner which I completely understand.
I live in NE OK and could fly down there out of Tulsa one way for just 85$ but don't want to go down there and come up with an empty sack. Would love to get someone to check it out and if it's a keeper I could make a deposit then fly down and drive back. Sometimes these things go fast and the price is right on this one. Any help/advice greatly appreciated!
I live too far north to help out. I am sure someone here will chime in. But, you should also post up on the 7.3 sub-forum here. Good luck with the search.
Hey thanks unleashed. I saw a Christian Brothers Auto very close by, might just call them see if they have a diesel mechanic that can hop over. Probably better make sure that's not the shop the dealer uses as well! They said they sent it over to their mechanic and he put a new fuel pump in it but everything else was good. I'm totally new here so last thing I want is to put someone out and get off on the wrong foot!
I looked at a 6.0 a few months back that the owner was just sure it was solid, local diesel shop checked it out and it had several problems, told me it looked like it needed head gaskets and may have had a bad cyclinder/cracked piston. Since then I don't want to even consider anything I can't get looked at by a good mechanic.
