Just had to have a new water pump installed in my 2017 SD . 14,000 miles .
Anyone else had an issue ?
The Primary or Secondary pump? What was wrong with it? My Secondary pump might be seeping coolant from it (has an oily residue on the inside of the pulley and I smell coolant on the passenger side after the truck is warmed up and I shut it off). My truck is at 15K miles.
Subscribing. I believe these water pumps are identical to the 2011-2016 style pumps, which never had any major history of problems. I'm curious which one it was as well.
UpInSmoke, does the coolant level in your secondary overflow tank go down at all?
My primary coolant overflow tank is below the minimum level, truck has 3500 miles on it.

This truck is a new to me used with 13K on it when I bought it. I have already had it in twice once for a new battery on the drivers side (leaking acid on hold down bracket) and again for a leaking brake fluid reservoir. Now I cannot figure out this "coolant" smell coming from the passenger side after parking in the garage when the engine is warm. I checked all over the engine and the only place that appears to be leaking is on the inside of the secondary water pump pulley (oily residue on the housing). I have not had to add coolant to the secondary reservoir yet but it is quite annoying knowing something is leaking/seeping but you cant see a damn thing in there. They stuffed that 6.7 in there so tight that you can not see very well.
Yes, the motor is stuffed in very tightly. I guess some repairs are much easier then you'd think because it was "thoughtfully" stuffed but many technicians will spend two hours to lift the entire cab off for wide-open access.
I am not sure which water pump . I came outside and had a puddle under it . My dealer did a pressure test all seemed good . All fluids were good . They kept the truck over night and the next morning it had a puddle under it for them as well . They told me it was the shaft on the water pump .
OK, got the truck back today-dealer rushed the part!
Anyhow, the water pump is quite a bit different from the previous gen, per the mechanic who did the repair.
Coolant lines are now directly tied into the pump (if I understood his explanation).
A bit more complicated and and a bit more of a chore to replace.
Truck started to leave puddles, at 19,000 Miles. Took almost a week to get it in at the dealership and had to keep topping off the primary coolant. They said it is the water pump so I’m waiting on parts.
