I have a 78 F-150 Ranger with a styleside shortbed. I was wondering if there was a way to make the floor of the bed wood instead of metal. The sides of the bed are repairable but the floor is like swiss cheese. If anyone has any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated.
I am using a product that your online store sells to restore my bed and If all goes well I will just cover the bed with tread plate and all should be good. Thanks again.

I agree with Torque1st and treadplate is diamond plate - just another name.
It depends on what you want to haul as to the thickness, but 3/16" thick will carry most any weight.
Yes it will have to be welded in, but you can use fillers (round bar, angle iron, etc) to fill the voids. I like to use 1/4" round bar and tack it in and form it as I go, then put a "Silaprene" bead around the rest of it. That way you don't have to worry about the heat warping the sidewalls. Of course if you had a wire welder, you could turn down the heat, use smaller wire and fill up the voids.
Anything you do will require work, even if you install bolting strips and install hardwood.
NOTE: Silaprene is a brand name and is what truckers use on vans to keep them sealed. Don't really know what this stuff is made of, but it is tough.
www.mar-k.com sells just about everything you can do to a truck bed in regards to installing a wooden bed floor on the truck. also, roll-pans, tailgate handle relocation to the inside.
