my coolant temp is 166 and my oil temp is 200 going down the highway. The low oil temp is my thermostat I’m sure so is it ok to leave the bad thermostat in there? Will I be doing any damage? I know I have a bad oil cooler and will be getting that fixed but I’m not sure when, wondering if waiting to do the thermostat when I do the oil cooler would be ok or if I’d be doing some damage
You won’t do any damage to the engine. But the PCM is likely overfueling to help heat up the engine so your MPG will take a hit and the lack of heat in the cab is about all.
MY ECT did the same thing as you described twice. The Ford thermostat would stick for long periods. 2 failed Ford thermostats in 2 years. No more.
I replaced it with a Mishimoto high temp thermostat and finished putting it together tonight. I recharged the batteries as I have driven it 3 times since Thanksgiving. It fired right up. Drove it for 15 minutes. No leaks yet. I am taking it on a long drive tomorrow.
Why high temperature thermostat? I live in northern California and we have moderate weather 9 months out of the year. The ECT always ran cool unless I was on long trips during the summer. The Mishimoto has a lifetime warranty and it was $25 more than the Ford EOM thermostat. I was tired of replacing the Ford. I bought an International thermostat on eBay as a back up if needed when driving in the hot southwest desert.
