Gearing and performance
I konw that the typical philosophy on gearing is that lower gearing (higher ratio) provides better performance/acceleration, but hurts MPG and top end. My question is, at what point do you reach where going to a lower gear begins to hurt acceleration. I asks this because I am looking at different gearing for a bronco which is heavy, but has more torque at the bottom end rather than hp at the top. So if I have very low gears and I can't spin the engine at high rpms, i would think that my acceleration may actually fall off because I don't have the rpm range to take advantage of the gearing. Is there some way to calculate this.
