Transmission HELP!!

I have a 2000 F150 XLT 4r70w transmission.
When cold i have to rev up to 3500 rpm to get it into gear
after it gets warm usually 1500-2500 rpm to get into first.
coming to a stop it slips back into neutral.
tried going up a mountain the other week at traffic. when it drops to 1500 rpm going up it will lose power like its about to go into neutral but stays at 1300 rpm without downshifting so i'll gas it up and it will catch again and start moving.

Am about to change tranny filter soon. I was thinking it was the shift solenoid but no codes thrown. the old guy who had it before did not change filter but sucked out the fluid from the top.

any ideas?

Changing the filter is a waste of money. It won't fix this. There is no way possible that it could be a shift solenoid. A shift solenoid could not cause this.

What can cause this is a failed forward clutch. It's toast. It's time to rebuild or replace the transmission. Sorry.

Mark is right. Forward clutch. Reving it up is just making it worse. Either the clutch disks have gone bad (usually caused by another problem) or (and this is probably the cause) you have a massive oil "leak" in the supply to the clutch. Sealing rings or rubber seals could have cause the clutch to fail. if so you can "repair" the tranny without a full OH, but it could be just a stop gap solution.

Sorry ....

LUBEGARD Platinum High Performance ATF Protectant

I use to be with a major transmission repair franchise, and all the franchisees recommended Lubegard as a possible fix/temporary fix. It's an inexpensive possible repair.

Waste of money. This one is well past where any additive could help.
